Initially, I was optimistic about everyone jumping aboard. Reality hit hard though. Two years of struggling to profit and recruit left me disheartened, facing rejection and skepticism from loved ones.
But amidst the darkness, I found a ray of hope in social media. It offered a way to attract customers and team members without the soul-crushing rejection of traditional methods.
If you're in a similar boat, I'm here to help. Let's navigate this journey together, using digital strategies to build something amazing without the pain of rejection.

You know what's sitting in my freezer right now?
A Milky Way Dark candy bar.
It's been there for over a year.
Now, this might not sound like a big deal to you, but here's the thing - I used to polish off one or two of these babies every single day. The fact that I can walk right past it without even thinking about it? That tells me everything about how completely my body has changed.
Here's the ironic part - I'm a nutritionist with a Master's in Nutrition and Physiology. I should have known better!
You'd think I'd have this figured out, right? But honestly, for most of my adult life, I was dealing with hypothyroid, heartburn, gas, bloating, and a hyperactive bowel that basically ran my social calendar.
Trust me, I tried everything. Every diet you can think of - FODMAP, restrictive calorie counting, spending hours at the gym like it was my second job.
And guess what? Nothing worked.

So my doctor starts prescribing acid blockers, but honestly, each one made me feel worse with all these side effects.
Like many of us do, I turned to Dr. Google for home remedies. A few helped for a hot minute. Most were complete duds.
And here's the kicker - during all this, I kept packing on pounds no matter what "expert advice" I followed.
Then a friend of mine says, "Hey, you should try this thing." It was a product that activates something called the Nrf2 pathway - basically helps your body pump out more antioxidant enzymes and dial down inflammation.
After a few months on this stuff, I wake up one morning and it hits me - something amazing had happened.
My heartburn? Gone. That hyperactive bowel that had me mapping out every bathroom in town? Totally calm.
I could actually sit through choir concerts without plotting my escape route to the restroom. Going out to eat with friends became fun again instead of this stressful game of "what can I actually eat here?"
But here's the frustrating part - I was still carrying all this extra weight. My doctor takes one look at my labs and says, "Yep, you've got metabolic syndrome."

Now, being the research nerd that I am, I had to figure out why this Nrf2 thing actually worked. I'm diving deep into all this functional medicine research, and I develop this theory - what if chronic inflammation was basically jamming the cellular signals in my stomach?
Picture this: when your stomach acid hits the right pH level, it's supposed to send a "hey, we're good here" signal to stop making more acid. But with all that inflammation? The message never gets through. It's like trying to have a phone conversation during a thunderstorm. Once I calmed the inflammation, boom - the signals started working again.

But I still had this annoying gas and bloating situation going on.

So my doctor says, "Try probiotics." I'm buying all those fancy brands you see on TV commercials. Zero change. I even splurged on the expensive stuff designed by some big-name GI doctor and this famous heart doctor who became a nutritionist.
Still nothing. Nada. Zilch.
Then I go to this gut health seminar and learn something that should have been obvious - probiotics by themselves are like sending soldiers into battle without any food. You need prebiotic fibers to actually feed the good guys!
So I start this whole combo - probiotics, prebiotics, my trusty Nrf2 activator, and a gut repair product. Oh, and get this - turns out I was sensitive to A1 protein in regular milk. Who knew? Switched to A2 milk and boom, problem solved.
Within a couple months, I'm dropping 1-2 pounds every week. And here's the crazy part - I didn't change what I was eating or add more gym time. The weight just started coming off.

I lost 30 pounds and felt amazing. Then I hit this brick wall at 205 pounds and couldn't budge it no matter what I tried.
Right around this time, those GLP-1 shots are all over TV. You know the ones I'm talking about. But honestly, all those massive hormone doses and scary side effects? No thank you.
Then my company comes out with this natural GLP-1 activator that bumps up your body's own production by over 200%. And get this - research shows that your gut bacteria actually make stuff that tells your body to produce more GLP-1 naturally. Mind-blowing, right?
The study results were incredible - people losing up to 25 pounds in 12 weeks, 27% of their visceral fat just melting away, and they kept all their muscle.
I'm thinking, "Sign me up!"
Day 2 rolls around, and I wake up feeling more energetic. But here's the weird part - for the first time in forever, my brain wasn't constantly chattering about food.
You know that voice in your head that's always like "ooh, cookies" or "what's for lunch?" It just... stopped. Turns out studies show 76% of people get this same relief from food obsession when their GLP-1 starts working properly again.

By day 4, I'm down a pound. By day 19, I've lost a whole inch around my waist and hips. And those stubborn love handles? They're actually starting to disappear!

In 12 weeks, I dropped 17 pounds - and remember, I have hypothyroid, which makes losing weight about as easy as pushing a boulder uphill. I kept losing bit by bit, ending up 4 inches smaller around my waist and hips, 3 inches off my thighs.
Not too shabby for a gal in her late 70s, if I do say so myself!

So here's what all my detective work taught me - most of us women over 45? We're fighting the wrong enemy entirely.
We beat ourselves up about willpower, but really we're battling these sneaky bad bacteria in our gut that literally hijack our cravings to keep themselves fed.
We blame getting older and our "slow metabolism," but it's actually about having the wrong mix of bacteria throwing everything out of whack.
We think it's hormones gone wild, but guess what's really messing with our hormones? That chronic inflammation we didn't even know we had.

When your gut gets all out of balance, it creates this thing called leaky gut - and that leads to inflammation everywhere. And I mean everywhere - it messes with your immune system, your mood (hello, serotonin!), your sleep, and yep, your GLP-1 hormones too.
Those bad bacteria are basically holding your taste buds hostage, making you crave all the sugary, fatty, processed junk they need to survive. Meanwhile, they're starving out all the good bacteria that actually want to help you.
And here's the kicker - research actually proves that stubborn belly fat has more to do with your gut bacteria being out of whack than it does with your overall weight. Wild, right?

You know what this whole journey taught me? Something my old microbiology professor used to say: "You have to be your own best medical record."
I wish I'd started digging for the real root causes way earlier instead of just nodding along with whatever my doctors told me to do.
The real solution isn't about having more willpower or just accepting that "this is what happens when you get older." It's about fixing this whole connected mess of inflammation, gut bacteria gone rogue, and hormones that can't do their job.

Every time I see that frozen Milky Way bar now, it reminds me that our bodies are incredibly smart and can heal at any age - we just have to give them what they actually need.
Listen, if I can drop 50 pounds and get my health back in my late 70s, just imagine what you can do in your 50s and 60s once you understand how this all connects.
It's not about finding the perfect diet or having superhuman discipline. It's about getting your body's systems working the way they're supposed to, so making healthy choices feels natural and easy.
Here's the thing - I wasted years trying to fix the wrong problems. Don't make the same mistake I did. Take my free Stubborn Belly Fat Quiz right now and find out what's actually blocking YOUR weight loss.
